Community spirit in the City of Surrey is a remarkable thing. It is constantly growing and changing, and is made up of many different areas and groups.

To address the changing community, the Whalley Community Association made the decision to change the name of annual festival to a name more reflective of the location of the festival.

“Last year, we had someone ask us where in Whalley the festival was being held,” says Bonnie Burnside, co-chair of the festival. “Whalley is a huge area. The festival has always been held in the Downtown core so it made sense to reflect that in the new name.”

Saturday June 18th, 2011 marks the 13th year anniversary of the newly renamed Surrey Fest Downtown – A Celebration of Community. From 11AM to 6PM, the public is invited out to Central City Plaza for an all-out bash involving games, food, performances and much, much more.

Wear your community pride on your sleeve and meet some of the local residents and businesses, City Employees and non-profit groups that occupy the area. Walk through the many exhibits that will be set up and discover the different services available right in the community.

Also be sure not to miss a second of the fabulous entertainment throughout the day. This year’s incredible line up of tribute bands includes Johnny Cash, the Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, Billy Joel and more.

Surrey Fest Downtown attracts over 7,000 visitors each year from both within and outside of Surrey. For more information about Surrey Fest Downtown and to learn more about volunteer or sponsorship opportunities, please visit www.surreyfest.com.
