As Surrey welcomes the seventh annual Movies Under the Stars at Holland Park, attendees can expect a little song-and-dance flavour added to their cinematic experience as the event goes Bollywood. Movies Under the Stars primarily features Hollywood favorites, however, on August 19, by popular demand and support, the event will take on a more cultural focus, screening its first Bollywood film.
For the inaugural Bollywood movie night, the film “Heyy Babyy” will be shown.
Councillor Barinder Rasode, Chair of Surrey’s Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee, expresses that “as Surrey is one of the largest South Asian populations outside of India, it is important to represent that community. It is great that the DSBIA is being representative of the fusion that exists in Surrey between cultures.”
Bollywood night centres on this fusion, providing free activities, crafts, and entertainment for everyone to take part in. As well, Rasode maintains that Bollywood appeals to diverse audiences because of the wide array of artistic elements it blends – “music dance, drama, and scenes from all over the world.”
The event, taking place on Friday, August the 19th in Holland Park, is the first of perhaps many future film nights focused on cultural celebration. Upon hearing this possibility, Rasode shares “I would like to see a Korean night, Vietnamese night, and anything else people are willing to be a part of.”
Movies Under the Stars – Bollywood Style is sponsored by Acadia Furniture, Overseas Autobody, Prospera Credit Union and Tien Sher Group of Companies (Quattro Development).
As these free events draw hundreds of attendees per evening, the DSBIA hopes Movies Under the Stars- Bollywood Style will stir greater interest in cultural appreciation and diversity. The night’s festivities begin at 6:00 pm and the movie starts at dusk (approximately 8:45 pm). For further information, contact Calvin at firstname.lastname@example.org.
