Take part in some fitness classes, learn how to cook healthy, and find ways to get engaged in your community at the First Annual Eat, Play, Live, Well Street Fair on July 14. Hosted by the Phoenix Society, this free community event aims to show individuals how they can create a well-balanced lifestyle for themselves from eating right and exercising to getting involved in the community.
This year’s fair will feature over 25 health and community engagement booths for seniors and families. This provides the opportunity for free blood pressure tests, hearing tests, dental checks and osteo bone density tests! In addition, in room speakers will highlight health and community engagement topics such as prescription drug misuse, heart & stroke, guerilla urbanism, and the oak avenue hub.
Outdoors, the Creole Jazz Band will be recreating the Dixieland Jazz of New Orleans. While Kunda Africa drumming will be bringing a world music flare. The band Drift Away will also be performing. Free outdoor yoga, tai chi, and zumba classes will be offered for the entire community to enjoy and try out.
Children will enjoy being entertained by Chris Hamilton, Juno nominated Children’s performer and can take participate in fun crafts, bouncy castles, face painters, and balloon artists for the kids.
All this exercising and learning is sure to work an appetite! Aboriginal salmon, burgers, hot dogs, and Jamaican smoothies will be at the event for you to enjoy while getting engaged and fit.
