On Saturday November 19th, watch the magical 55 foot Christmas tree in City Hall Plaza twinkle with lights at Surrey’s annual Tree Lighting Festival.
Every year, the City of Surrey decorates an enormous Christmas tree and holds a full day of fun events in the plaza at New City Hall. Come down this year from 12-7 pm to enjoy some free activities, get a head start on your Christmas shopping, and watch as the Christmas tree springs to life with dazzling lights.
While the tree isn’t officially lit until the evening, the fun begins long before that and it will be easy to make a full day of the event. There will be tons of ways to get into the Christmas spirit, such as festive crafts, games, and local entertainers. There will be a craft table inside City Hall, as well as stations set up with face painters and a balloon animal artist. There will also be events held inside City Centre Library. Those children who have been good all year may even get a chance to meet the one and only Santa Claus! Santa will be in the plaza throughout the day picking up letters and Christmas wish lists from children and posing for photos. You can check the Surrey Tree Lighting Festival’s website on November 1st for more news about fun events and local performers that will be appearing on that day.
If you’re in the giving mood this holiday season, show some support for the Surrey Christmas Bureau by stopping by their booth at the festival. They will be holding a sucker pole, where you can purchase suckers for 25 cents each. If your sucker has a black dot at the bottom, you win a prize! They will also be accepting donations to make sure every child wakes up to a present this Christmas.
As always, the festival is free of charge, so enjoy a festive day out with family and friends and join us at City Hall Plaza for a celebration of Christmas Spirit!
