Surrey’s Canada 150 Program Launch

Mayor Linda Hepner kicked off Surrey’s City-wide Canada 150 Program last Tuesday, February 21st at City Hall. As part of the announcement, the City had a number of performers and entertainers, including Laura Grizzly Paws, and a Canadian cover band.

Mayor Hepner announced that for Canada’s 150th anniversary this year, the City of Surrey will feature a number of special concerts and events. On April 22nd, Party for the Planet returns to Surrey City Hall with feature headliner Shawn Hook, best known for his single “Sound of Your Heart.”

On July 1st, the largest Western Canada Day Concert will take place at Bill Reid Millennium Amphitheatre with Canada-based group Hedley, who has garnered over 60 million video views and 17 number one MuchMusic videos.

Surrey Fusion Festival at Holland Park will be held on July 22-23rd, with the internationally successful Nelly Furtado headlining the event. Furtado has over 16 million records sold world-wide and her two-decade career has reached every part of the globe.

Canada 150 zones will be incorporated at every major event this summer, which showcase our history and include Canadian-themes activities. There will also be local performances by First Nation’s performers, hoop dancers, French-Canadian artists, and more.
