Celebrate Canada’s big 150th birthday at the Eat Play Live Well Street Fair on July 16 at the Phoenix Society.

On Sunday July 16th the Downtown Surrey Business Improvement Association (DSBIA) is hosting the Eat Play Live Well Street Fair. This year the event is being given a Canada 150 theme, with a focus on Indigenous peoples, Immigrants, French Canadians, and the history of our area. Running from 11 am till 4 pm at the Phoenix Society, the event will be a fun day of entertainers, artwork, food and local vendors.

This jam packed street fair will have not one, but two different stages featuring local entertainers. There will always be something to keep everybody entertained and interested. The highlight of the event will be a performance from Native American Pow-wow dancer Shyama-Priya. She began dancing as a teen and has since performed at many events including the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Opening Ceremonies. Catch her performance after our opening ceremony, and hang out all day to watch the other fantastic musicians and dancers that will be performing. There may even be an opportunity for you to dance along with them! Randie and the Reehabs, a band of residents at the Phoenix Society, will close out the festival with some feel-good rock tunes.

There will be plenty of activities for kids at the DSBIA’s Kids Zone, including crafts, games, a bouncy castle, and face painters. Make some Canada 150 themed crafts to celebrate, or try your hand at building an Inuit Inukshuk in our sandbox.

There will be a number of vendors at the event including Whimsy Jewels, who will be selling a special collection of Canada 150 themed jewelry in celebration of Canada’s milestone birthday. There will be lunch available to purchase on site, as well as many other snacks. Keep an eye out for Ryley and Chloe who will be selling freezies with all proceeds going to the Food Bank.

Celebrate Canada and connect with your community at Eat Play Live Well, Sunday July 16th at the Phoenix Society at 13686 94a Ave from 11am-4pm
