Ryley, Chloe and Aubrey’s FunRaizer

Little girls can do big things, and big things can help local charities like the Surrey Christmas Bureau! On November 18th Ryley and Chloe (and their latest team member Aubrey) will be hosting their 4th annual FunRaizer Spaghetti dinner to raise toys and cash for the Surrey Christmas Bureau.

The dinner will take place at Knight and Day Restaurant on King George Boulevard in Surrey from 5-7 pm. Tickets will be sold for $12 which includes a buffet style pasta dinner (vegetarian options available). We ask that all guests please bring a toy or cash donation to be given to the Surrey Christmas Bureau in addition to their ticket.

Ryley and Chloe first decided to hold a FunRaizer in 2014. Every year since she was 2 years old, Ryley and her Auntie Bonnie would buy a toy and take it to the Christmas Bureau for Ryley to put on the shelf. Ryley said she wanted to find a way to take more toys to the Christmas Bureau, and Bonnie gave her the idea to hold a fundraiser dinner. However, not any old fundraiser would do for Ryley and Chloe. The girls wanted to call it a “FunRaizer” instead of a “Fundraiser” because “toy’s are fun, and all kids should have fun at Christmas!”. The first annual Spaghetti dinner was a success, and as it has progressed over the years the girls have gotten more and more involved, holding meetings in the summer to plan the upcoming dinner. Every year after Christmas they hold a follow up meeting to decide what they would like to do next year, and they always say they want to raise more toys for the Christmas bureau. Ryley and Chloe like being able to bring the toys to the Christmas bureau themselves, lining the shelves with all the gifts they have worked hard to collect.

In the past three years, Ryley and Chloe have raised over $4000 and 10 boxes of toys. Aubrey, who was an intern elf in 2016, is excited to help with this year’s annual Spaghetti Funraizer dinner. Gingerbread Village Event

This year the Downtown Surrey BIA is presenting a brand new signature event: Gingerbread Village.

We’re inviting YOU to create your own piece of the Gingerbread Village and submit it to be on display from December 14th-16th at Central City Shopping Centre! Prizes of up to $1000 will be awarded.

Here’s how it works: 

Participants will build a Gingerbread House to enter into the category that fits them best. The categories are: Elementary School, High School, Post-Secondary, Community & Service Groups, Charities/Non-Profits, and an Open category to include businesses and individuals within the community.

Entries will be on display at Central City Shopping Centre from December 14th-16th. We ask that participants drop off their entries between 11 am – 1 pm on December 14th so they can be included in the display. The display will be open to visitors from Thursday December 14 from 5-9pm as well as Friday, December 15th and Saturday the 16th during mall hours (10 am – 9 pm). On Friday night, we will hold a short presentation at 5 pm to announce the winners in each category. There will be music and face painters from 4-6 pm.

Cash prizes will be awarded for the top 2 entries in each category. The prize amounts are as follows:

  • 1st place – $500
  • 2nd place – $250

In addition to awards chosen by our secret panel of community judges, there will be a “People’s Choice Award”. Over the course of the weekend, we will ask everyone who visits the display to vote for their favourite entry with a cash donation that will be given to the Surrey Christmas Bureau. The entry who receives the most donations will be awarded a $500 prize following the end of the display. The “People’s Choice” winner will be announced on Facebook on Monday, December 18.

Create a house that models after your favourite local business, your residence, or even an iconic building in Downtown Surrey; now is the perfect time to get creative! This event is a great way to get your family, friends, or staff into the holiday spirit, raise money for the Surrey Christmas Bureau, and potentially win a cash prize.
