The Gingerbread Village Showdown is back at Central City! This free community competition invites bakers, families, students, and organizations to showcase their creativity in gingerbread form. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or trying your first build, you’ll find all the key details below — from theme and materials to prizes and registration deadlines.
Who can enter the Gingerbread Showdown?
Anyone can enter! We have categories for professional/experienced bakers, families, children, youth groups, businesses, and organizations. All ages and experience levels are welcome. It is completely free to enter.
What is this year’s theme?
My Favourite Movie!
Bring your favourite film to life in gingerbread form — whether it’s a character, an iconic prop, or a memorable scene. Just remember: entries must be family-friendly, with no horror or gore themes allowed.
What materials can I use?
All elements of your display must be edible and non-flammable. The only exceptions are:
- Your base (must be 2.5 ft × 2.5 ft or smaller — feel free to go tall!)
- Battery-operated LED string lights for decoration
What are the categories?
Advanced / Experienced Baker – For seasoned home bakers or past entrants.
School-Aged Children & Family – Kids under 12 with parental supervision.
School / Youth Group
- Elementary – Group entries from elementary-aged children, classes, or clubs.
- High School – Group entries from high school-aged youth, classes, or clubs.
Organization – Corporate entries from businesses, nonprofits, or community groups.
What prizes can I win?
- 1st Place in each category: $500
- 2nd Place in each category: $250
- People’s Choice Award: $500
What about the People’s Choice Award?
The People’s Choice Award is decided by public voting, with all proceeds going to the Surrey Food Bank.
- Each vote = $1 donated
- All entries are eligible
- Winner announced on Monday, December 8 via social media
- The winner of this category will be mailed their check
